SonicWALL TZ 150 network firewall

A hardware firewall plus a wide range of software services equals excellent protection.
It’s no secret that viruses, spy ware, worms, Trojans and other malicious software can cause havoc across poorly protected networks. And while a software firewall is a must for any desktop system, it still can’t match the protection of ZZ a hardware firewall offering deep packet inspection.
SonicWALL’s TZ 150 is four-port firewall switch with a WAN uplink that would suit just about any standalone PC or small network. The box includes 64MB RAM, 8MB of flash memory, and support for SonicOS Standard, which provides Dynamic DNS, a DHCP server and configuration wizards to ease setup and maintenance.
Users could take an incoming connection from an ADSL or cable modem, pass it into the TZ 150 to secure the data, and then feed the traffic through either more switches or directly to desktops. The device could also be used to screen off a portion of a business network from prying eyes.
The system provides layered security through a combination of deep packet inspection, gateway antivirus, anti-spyware and intrusion prevention. Full dynamic domain name service (DDNS) support is included, so it’s possible to host an FTP or Web server behind the box. Hardware-based support for AES and 3DES encryption is included, along with an IPSec VPN with two site-to-site VPN tunnels.
SonicWALL employs a model where you only pay for the features you want: start off buying the product itself, then customise the services offered through the configuration interface. A range of security options are available, including AV, and the device communicates back with the SonicWALL server to maintain a list of services subscribed to.
The pricing structure is quite complex, and the box ships with a sampler of the optional security services, including 30 days of gateway antivirus, anti-spyware and intrusion prevention; 30 days of network antivirus (10-user licence); 30 days of content filtering; 30 days of ViewPoint and 30 days of weekday support.
The TZ 150 provides a solid, all-round set of security features for a power user or small office. Best of all, the flexible, extensible nature of the sign-on services mean the device is able to grow along with your needs.
