Description: Top marks for the play on words. The software isn’t too bad either.

Nero is a CD writer/CD rewritable application. The program opens into a property sheet where the first decision you need to make is which format you would like to base your creation on. The CD formats supported include ISO 9660 (levels 1 and 2), Joliet, CD-XA and Red Book audio. There is also provision for the various flavours of these choices. For lazy users there is a CD copy option too.

You can create CD image files or burn on-the-fly by dragging and dropping from your source pane to the target pane. Procrastinators, like myself, will appreciate Nero’s default operating mode which does not close the CD after burning. This allows you to add sessions further on down the track. In addition, Nero’s multi-mounter feature circumvents the operating system’s inability to view multi-session CDs in their entirety.

One serious complaint though — there is poor support for network source drives. You can’t see any drives beyond your local environment, nor is the Network Neighbourhood icon visible in the source pane. To access files on a network drive it is necessary to drag and drop from Explorer.

Supported writer drives can be located in the manual of the registered version or on the Web site.

Requirements: 14-day evaluation. $US69
